Brought to the future by mistake, Ray happens to be the 8 year-old version of the famous hero the Galactic Council was trying to bring back from the past: The implacable Commander Raymond Trigger.

That's how Ray ends up with a powerful spaceship, a crew and the highest rank in the fleet, despite the fact that he ignores every aspect of being a Space Commander, from finding a door in a spaceship, to de-activating a self replicatory mindstorm-bomb.
